Transport in Kancheepuram

Roadways in Kancheepuram: National Highway NH 4 passes through the city, connecting Kancheepuram to major cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Tirupathi, Vellore, Thiruthani, Tiruvannamalai, Coimbatore, Salem, Pondicherry etc. Both private and public buses ply on the roads. Public buses are provided by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation.

Railways in Kancheepuram: Kancheepuram railway station serves the city with its array of trains connecting to all the major cities of India. There are two express trains both up and down and three passenger trains up and down serving this city. Apart from this there are several EMU trains running at regular intervals.

Airways in Kancheepuram: Kancheepuram city is 74 km from the Chennai International Airport. All the major airlines like Air India, Spice Jet, Indigo etc. are available for both domestic and international passengers. You can hire a taxi or prepaid auto or cabs from the airport to reach Kancheepuram.

To get around the city you can hire auto rickshaws or cycle-rickshaws or walk around. Though it is advisable to limit the travel as much as possible to morning and evening on summers as the temperature can get real nasty in the afternoon during summers.
